PTEL is now an affiliated society of the Panamerican Trauma Society. What it is: http://www.panamtrauma.org/page-954013. It is only $5 for a year of membership. The benefit to this is access to presentations given by professionals at the annual conferences (such as Non Operative Management of solid organ injury Dr. Andrew Peitzman or Blunt chest trauma clinical findings Dr. Kimball Mall or case presentations by Dr. Juan Carlos Puyana) and help with international networking. To join: http://www.panamtrauma.org/page-954089 Professionals and students from across the Americas unite once a year at the annual conference. It truly is a great place to learn, take courses, present, learn about how our systems differ from other countries, and meet leaders at an international level. Presentations cover various topics, from critical care to prevention to a comparison of treatment decisions of trauma cases between US and Latin American surgeons. Every year at least one person from Pittsburgh attends. Now that the league has formed here, we hope for representation at this conference to become stronger and stronger. https://sites.google.com/site/pittemsacprclasses/home

Sampat Pal Devi, a mother of five and former child bride, founded the Gulabi Gang in response to the widespread violence against women occurring in India. This film follows the Gulabis as they take on abusive husbands, stop child marriages, and protest dowries and female illiteracy, bringing their own brand of female justice to the streets of Utter Pradesh, India. http://youtu.be/xJjdbfVii-Q Viewing of the film will be accompanied by food as always, and a discussion led by Dr. Martha Terry will follow.
